THE 50th HOUR

2019 - ONGOING

Motherhood has altered my perception of time and memory. It gifted me with the opportunity to experience childhood anew. My grown daughter and I collaborate in these photographs, embracing a sense of play and make believe. She is malleable and mysterious. She is a mirror - I am her when she is older and she is me when I was younger. Time becomes non-linear as I see myself in her features and gestures while she performs a story that is mine, and by extension hers. Filled with curiosities and invented imagery, I create many layered stories.

By composing the scene and carefully constructing narratives, I create tableaux vivants that portray the intimate, the familiar, and my shifting identity as a woman. I am left with many unanswered questions: Is our home her dollhouse? Is she outgrowing it, outgrowing me? I invite the viewer to suspend disbelief, and speculate what is real and what is pretend.
