Sarah Madeleine T. GUERIN is a French-American bookmaker, artist, scholar, and educator. In 2021, she approached me with the freedom to create still life portraits of her bespoke boots—an invitation that felt both generous and thrilling. Collaborating with another artist who admired my work was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. Since then, I’ve been photographing her footwear and creating still lifes for her website, Saboteuse.com. Beyond the digital space, some of these images were featured in her stand at the 2023 Smithsonian Craft Show. This year, they’re back on display—this time adorning the walls of her artist-in-residence studio.
Stop by to see my photographs, learn about the rich history of bookmaking in Massachusetts, and watch Sarah craft her stunning bespoke boots. (And look for upcoming exhibits, where the boots will be going up in museums alongside the boots!)
